Saint Vincent de Barrès " village character "

[tetiere_stvincentbarres_jpg_x.jp]
18km from Privas, 18 from Montélimar and 18 from Loriol(where you can find the A7 highway), this fortified town of 700 inhabitants is built on a rocky of marl and limestone. It's a former gallo-roman farm in the heart of the Barrès, beetween the limestones of the Rhone valley and the basalts of the Coiron mountains. Birthplace of many great families of the South of France, it was the property of the Toulouse counts.
The current rural home housed Diane de Poitiers in his mansion.
Castle with ramparts, 9 round towers and 3 doors : the one of the notables, the one of the riders and the one of the peasants.
The tight streets and voulted passageway, 4 mission crosses in Cruas slimestone were erected whose one was in the castle.
The church was built in 1687 and the fountain date from 1851. Rich medieval past as the basalt and limestone houses covered by roman tiles evidence.
Viewpoint and dining area. Hiking and horse riding.
A relic beech forest, unique in Europe at this height. Beautiful point of view of the ''Serre du Barry''(mountain) 605m high and the Alpes, and of the foothills of the Massif Central.
