Tour around Cruas

Little circuit about 90 km long which takes you to the nearest towns.
Starting from the medieval village of Cruas, take the time to visit the batiments which are being restaured, its abbey from the XIIth-XIVth century, museum : temporary exhibitions, whitewash's exploitationand André Auclair's work and a sport museum.
You have to get out from Cruas by the RD 86, in Baix's direction ; in the middle of the nature, the small chapel Saint Euphémie will be on your left.
In Baix, take your time in those little streets and paths : there's St Nicolas's church from the XIVth century, the clock tower which showed the main way called the Royal Way, the vaulted washhouse and the fountain then at the end of the town the little St Jospeh's chapel.
Then you'll go ont he RN86 and once you've passed the rail crossing turn left on the D22A in direction of Saint Symphorien sous Chomérac, go see its XIIth century's church, then take the little road above the town hall in direction of « les Chazettes », then « Chomérac », and always continue straight.
At the tag, turn left, a little stone bridge, then straight ahead and you'll find the D2, turn right and go in the direction of Saint-Bauzile. You'll see a little roman church beetween two municipal buildings, it's all really suprising.

Now follow the D3 in direction of Saint-Vincent-de-Barrès : this fortified town, built on a moutain peak is the former location of a gallo-roman villa. Castle with battlements, church St-Vincent, fountain from 1851 contibute all to the charm of this village with a rich medieval past. Now go back in Saint-Bauzile's direction then turn left on the D3 in the direction of Meysse.
Here the little streets will lead you to the roman church which shelter a baptistry, then you can admire House Miraval's shield.

Now you've to reach Rochemaure, far away you can perceive the black rock (La roche noire), and at its foot you'll find a Resistance memorial. This medieval village has a wonderful patrimony : castle, chapel, church, a XIX century suspension bridge, a fountain and a Roman boundary.
In the medieval village, take the path which will lead you to the castle, climb up to the volcano Chenavari. A lot of marked paths start from the castle's parking lot and from the church's one

After the old bridge, come back where you were, « le chemin du milieu de la plaine » which will lead you to the D11, turn right, you'll be at Rochemaure rotary(roundabout).

Variant n°1 :
Before you reach Meyse, take the D213 in St-Martin-sur-Lavezon direction ; this town has two beautiful little roman churches ; continue to St-Pierre-La-Roche, situated at the border of a volcanic massif (Coiron). This ? Is nowadays covered by forests and fields, with some breedings. There are a lot of panoramic views on the Vercors(mountains) and the Tarnague (mountains).

Variant n°2
Going down from Saint-Vincent take the D2 on your right and you'll go to Saint-Lager-Bressac, where you can see a lovely little church and a beautiful panorama.
